Dye Penetrant Testing

WCR 100% Dye-Testing is our standard for locating cracks, pinholes, or failures.  With proprietary red dye-penetrant saturating the plate surface, and white developer solution covering the reverse side, WCR is capable of detecting even miniscule imperfections.

WCR technicians inspects row of gaskets

We  test 100% of the plates that come in for service, while most competitors only test a percentage. Consider that 90% of plates tested have a 10% fail rate.  Basically, random checking of 10-20% cannot eliminate all bad plates, which WCR guarantees prior to leaving our facility.

Although Dye-Testing is the most time consuming and expensive method for leak detection, WCR chooses the process for its reliability and effectiveness.  Early discovery of plate defects alleviates cross-contamination concerns, saving costly downtime in the future.

Other Non Destructive Testing Methods:

Ultraviolet Testing

The ultraviolet test is used upon request, usually specialty applications where fluid mediums can only be detected under UV light.
One side of the plate is sprayed with a unique dye-penetrant, then subsequently inspected under UV light to reveal cracks, pinholes, or failures.

Vacuum Testing

Vacuum testing of plates is used for welded and semi-welded heat exchangers plates. Dye-penetrant methods cannot be used with these plate types. This method will detect if a plate has a leak, however, it will not identify the location of the failure.
